Many sightings of the Big 5 have taken place from the deck, in the dryer seasons, large herds of elephant and buffalo are frequent visitors. Many antelope species, rhino, giraffe, hippo all take their turn in visiting the river, accompanied by an endless supply of birds (over 300 on the Ngwenya bird spotting list) and always watched from the river by the lurking crocodile.

As you watch the sun set across the river, the evening sounds reflect the nocturnal life that is beginning to stir. From viewing to listening, your senses will become alert to the noises of the night. The resonating of bats, the chorus of frogs and insects, not to mention the lion reminding all of his territory, or the laughter of the hyena as he calls the clan together. Time to light up the braai, bring out the sundowners, and relax, reminiscing on the events of the day.
